Konigsberg Spr. '03
Anth 590 - Method and Theory in Biological Anthropology
TR 12:40-13:55 SSH 246

Course objectives - This course will first place biological anthropology in its (short) historical context in order to better explain the methods and theories of this science's sub-disciplines.  In addition, the pragmatic side of anthropology will also be presented (e.g. presenting and publishing papers, preparing grant proposals, job interview tips).  The objectives of the course are two-fold: 1) to prepare you academically by providing an integrative foundation upon which your future course-work and research can be built, and 2) to prepare you professionally with information that will hopefully result in your successful career as an anthropologist.

Primary Instructor - Dr. Lyle W. Konigsberg, 223 SSH, 4-6369, lylek@utk.edu.

Texts

Stinson et al. (2000) Human Biology - For the first part of the course.

Day (1998)  How to Write and Publish a Scientific Paper - For the end of the course.

Extra Readings

Grading and the GEE - Two exams, a term-paper and class participation will determine your grade in the course.  The midterm is a third of your grade, the term paper is a third, and the final is a third.  As that totals to 100% I'm not sure what "bad" class participation will do for you, but I'm sure it's nothing good.
